UNMIL Photo/Christopher Herwig, October 2008, Monrovia, Liberia - The World Food Program recently announced that it would resume its school feeding program in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia due to the global food crisis. More than half a million children are now getting daily meals at schools across Liberia’s 15 counties. In a country where war destroyed much of the infrastructure and most people live on a subsistence basis the daily meals are an incentive for families to send children to school.

Many of the armed robberies around Monrovia are carried out by drug users desperate for money. The ERU identifies suspects and searches for drugs and weapons amongst the burnt-out buildings.
