Jordan.10 year Syrian war amputee learns to swimBasil, 10, from Dara’a in southern Syria, lost both legs and his left hand in an explosion near his home that also claimed the lives of his father and two brothers. Basil was taken to Jordan for surgery on his injuries, and is living with a Syrian NGO in the capital Amman while he undergoes rehabilitation. As part of his physical therapy, Basil has weekly swimming lessons with a coach at a local swimming pool. He has learnt to swim after only a few lessons, and says he would one day like to compete in the Paralympic Games.BACKGROUND INFORMATION:Amman is the capital city of Jordan, one of top countries hosting refugees from the region, including over 650,000 registered refugees from Syria.
